In this article, I’ll introduce a tool which I’ve been using on my website – TeachTraffic.com to improve the conversion rate.

The tool is called ConvertBox. It’s basically a pop up software, but it’s pop up software with a difference.

And I feel it’s quite different to a lot of the other pop up software’s that are out there. So in this article, I’m going to share with you how I am using this tool, and specifically the stats that I’m getting, which I think you’re going to be quite surprised about.

So as mentioned, this is my website TeachTraffic.com.

Unfortunately, the pop-ups won’t show up for me because I’ve set them not to display for visitors who have been to my website more than three times. However, the tool I’m referring to is ConvertBox, and I highly recommend it. I’ve been using it for quite a while.

Currently, I have what’s called an exit pop-up running, specifically a full-page exit pop. Let me quickly show you the stats for this.

Over the last 30 days, it has received this many views and is converting into leads at a rate of 4.55%, which I actually think is quite impressive.

So if I show you real quick what this pop up looks like. This is an exit pop.

When someone is about to leave my website, they encounter a full-screen pop-up that reads: “Hi, I’m Ilana Wechsler. I help people run profitable PPC campaigns without needing an agency. Want to know what’s working right now? Subscribe to my free newsletter.

Embedded within is a name and email form that links directly to my autoresponder. Users don’t need to click on an extra button; they can simply sign up here, and it automatically adds them to my database.

So, it’s very seamless for people as they’re leaving anyway. So why not ask, “Do you want to subscribe to my newsletter?”

To show a bit more data on how long we’ve been running this, if I go into the stats of it, and I actually go all time:

You’ll see that I have been running this from July to currently at the time of this recording in February, so  almost six months.

It’s consistently generating leads at four and a half percent, which for most conversion rates of websites, this is actually very, very good.

For an extended period, I utilized a different pop-up—a specific Ebook promotion. In the illustration below, you’ll notice that I ran this particular pop-up from July 2021 until July 2023.

So two years, and it generated 900 leads. So really very, very effective. But it only converted at 2.27%. So imagine if I had the other pop up for those that time period, I would have had twice the amount of leads. This just shows the importance of split testing. Different offers split testing different types of pop ups to see which converts the best.

And if I show you what this particular one looked like, I will go open an editor.

This is for a free Google Ad “Gotcha” guide. Interestingly, I was split-testing different headlines. This is one of the reasons I love this tool; you can split-test easily.

One headline reads, “Download the free Google Ads ‘Gotcha’ guide,” accompanied by an embedded email form.

This was variation A:

Now this is variation B had a different headline that says: “You might have fallen for the Google Ad “Gotchas”….”

If I exit out of this, you’ll see here from those two variations, a massive difference in conversion rates. So one converted at 1.85% whilst the other converted at 2.84%. Hence the importance of split testing headlines, you need to always be testing because you never know which one is going to be the winner. And the winner can often make a big difference in your bottom line.

We gained a lot of extra leads by split-testing this particular headline for a number of years. Additionally, I ran pop-ups on my agency website, Green Arrow Digital, for a webinar. Let me show you quickly. I incorporated one with a countdown timer, specifically for a Google Ads webinar. Once again, it featured an embedded form with a countdown timer.

And that actually was the highest converting pop up I had at almost 5%.

Let me show you what this looked like. It popped up on the side with a message saying, “Join our free Google Ads webinar: Four easy steps to creating profitable Google ads.” It was a live webinar that I hosted, and it featured a countdown timer to emphasize the urgency and ensure people didn’t miss out. This version converted the best.

So, there you have it. That’s how I use ConvertBox on my website to improve its conversion rate.
